A Washington Moonrise
The full moon tonight (March 19, 2011) was called a "Super Moon" since it was at perigee - its closest to Earth in 2011.
It was special, as the last full moon this large and close to Earth occurred in March of 1993.
Fortunately, the weather in Washington was excellent on this almost-Spring evening, allowing fine visibility. The photo, encompassing the United States Capitol, the Washington Monument, and the Lincoln Memorial, was taken from across the Potomac on the Virginia shoreline.

i know the term "still life" doesn't really apply to this kind of shot – but that's exactly what it appears to be: a "city still life", with an overall serene, cool, "alabaster" feel to it! a moonscape in which the moon itself merges with the architecture, becoming an organic part of the town, a kindred soul to the landmarks of washington, appearing even warmer – almost sunny! – in its golden shine, than the artificially lit buildings with their cool and distinguished silver luster. a town under her royal highness, la (super-) luna's mighty spell ; ))! very beautiful! greetings, sabine.Matthias Mempel 20/03/2011 9:51
Outstanding. It looks like that I have have to skip NYC next time when I visit US and have to go to Washington. Really nice. The moon the eyecatcher. Well done.Someone was saying that it is the brightest moon over the last 20 yeas because he was that close to earth like you mentioned.
