The Little Engine That Could

(Suggested musical accompaniment: Bahn Frei Polka by Eduard Strauss *)

For the young…and the young at heart…this Holiday Season
(and it doesn’t hurt at all if you love trains or are hoping Santa
will remember that steam locomotive for your train set!)…

Every now and again (usually at around 2 or 3 in the morning),
I will summon the Digital Genie out of her bottle to collaborate
with me on a favorite image or two. Sometimes, we even agree ;-)

The original image of this scene, from a photo-rich Winter visit in 2008
to the Preßnitztalbahn narrow gauge railway, always suggested to me
the wonderful children’s story “The Little Engine that Could.”

Not only does the story celebrate the magic of trains,
but it inspires one to believe in himself…and his dreams.

Merry Christmas, Everyone, and may your every Holiday wish come true.
(including that little Dampflok für deine kleine Modelleisenbahn!)

    Steve,
Merry Christmas to you, too. Your "steam engines" are bringing all my "Emma" memories back I'm wearing in my heart. Love to see your locomotive breaths.
    Greetings, Matthias

merry christmas to you, too, steve! you and the digital genie had a great time together, sharing a lot of creative and productive fun, it seems! and it's the holiday season – time to rejoice and to indulge, both in childhood memories and sentimental dreams – so if not now, then when?! and "the little engine that could" is indeed a truly magic little story, capturing both the magic of christmas and the magic of the american dream ; ))… greetings, sabine.
